Our Type

The Seeking State believes in heritage reclaimed. Our typeface is The Doves Type. Punch-cutter Edward Prince created this type in 1899 – influential in modern book design -  for Cobden-Sanderson and Emery Walker for Dove press.

In a story of rival jealousy and fear of bland uniformity and mechanization, Cobden-Sanderson threw the whole type over Hammersmith Bridge. Type suicide. Robert Green re-discovered the throw-away in the Thames and after dogged research and passionate dedication made the typeface available since December 2013. Heritage can be reclaimed.
